About
Want to know more about me and my work? I hold a B.A. and M.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in English Literature, with a focus on Medieval English Literature, from the University of Notre Dame. I've accrued over 25 years of teaching, tutoring, editing, coaching in writing and academics, and mentoring at all levels of education, from primary school to higher education.
In my academic work, I research and write about a range of historical and literary topics, primarily women's history, the medieval world and literature, and the relationship of environment to human experience. My methodologies include codicology (the study of medieval manuscripts), close textual study, bibliography (book history), and analysis of material culture.
In my coaching, I support high achievers, especially writers and academics, to achieve their goals. I've taught at institutions ranging from technical schools to top-tier research universities and have published, edited, and coached in nearly every type of writing, from academic essays and dissertations to creative endeavors and not-for-profit marketing. My published work ranges from academic books, journal articles, and conference presentations to historical fiction, poetry, nonfiction novels, short stories, news writing, and social media promotion.
As an experienced academic and writer myself, I know from the inside out the often gut-wrenching processes of succeeding in high-achieving environments (especially academic programs) and working to overcome the challenges every student, teacher, scholar, and writer faces: procrastination, imposter syndrome, overwhelm, and overwork are often the chief among those challenges. Fortunately I discovered early on an innate appreciation for organization and time management and I have developed those skills ever since, using them to help those who need it.
My work is also HSP (Highly Sensitive Person)-supportive. Not sure if you're an HSP? Curious to learn more about the trait? Check out the ground-breaking research of Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D.
